While putting together what seemed like an endless array of baby-related furniture and accessories, I realized that I have already embarked on the new role that most dads assume – the person who fixes things. Saw a scene of an old dying father in the hospital being visited by his grown son on the TV today. The old father smiled when his son held his hand. Is that when you realize that you’ve done a good job raising your children? Are all the years in between just a blur? I find myself not caring when that moment arrives, as long as it arrives.

“The sharp knife of a short life.” At sunrise thinking of my dearest friend on her birthday, knowing I can’t celebrate it with her while on Earth. Can’t help but wonder what I’ll tell my son the first time he experiences that loss. Guess it’ll be something like, “Remember the good times. You’ll see them again one day.” Happy Birthday Regina. Please watch over him and all the little ones.
