You came to me
In the gray today
Wrapped in a sunbeam
That pierced a cloud
In the way
Only you can

You spoke to me
In the gray today
Moved me like thunder
With just a whisper
In the way
Only you can

You gave to me
In the gray today
A river of joy
Flowing from my eyes
In the way
Only you can

You proved to me
In the gray today
As earth does the rain
I long to be loved
In the way
Only you can

In The Gray

Image

I picked them up
Tried to find their place
The pieces of me
Shattered and broken
By a world that loved me
But not in the way I needed
Just when I thought
I had it together
The mirror of life
Showed me otherwise
My broken self
On display again
For the world to see
I cursed it at first
But not anymore
It brought you to me
Broken pieces in hand
You filled the gaps
Smoothed the edges
Mended me
With pieces of you
Held in place
By your love alone
Just the way I needed
Now I am not afraid
Now I like what I see
Our reflection
In the mirror of life
It comforts me
The world need not love me
You are all I need
For the rest of my days
Let it be known
I am broken no more
With you I am whole

Broken No More

Image

It moves
Across the distance
Between us
Brings each breath
You’ve let escape
Into me
On it you ride
In memories
In daydreams
They wash over me
Remind me
Of your skin
Fragrant
As spring rain
Of your smile
Refreshing
My soul itself
It stirs the trees
Bending
Rustling
Singing
The sweet sound
Of your name
While tall grasses
Sway
And new leaves
Dance
It finds me
Here
In the space between
Dusk and dawn
My eyes closed
My heart open
Silently wishing
It blows once again
Bringing more of you
To me
Until I have all
And we both can savor
This breeze
Together

Breeze

I go on
Even when
I have nothing
I am empty
I am hurting
I go on
Being strong
For the many
For the few
For you
I go on
Saving
Shielding
Believing
Until I can’t
Like now
Right now
I need
A healer
A believer
A savior
To mend
To restore
To protect
All that I am
My goodness
My flaws
Me
Save me
Please
But in the end
As it began
Who sees
Who cares
When a God
Bleeds
When a hero
Pleads
When Superman
Weeps

The sky fills with stars
Then goes to just one
Again and again
As I wait for you
My Lord
My love
I do so tirelessly
For a moment with you
Is worth it all
The pain and tears
The longing and fears
That come and go
As I wait for you
My Lord
My love
To be without you
Is to be without my heart
Beating in my chest
Pushing life through my body
And your love through my veins
As I wait for you
My Lord
My love
The night is long
And silence unkind
Leaving me with my thoughts
Driving my heart to madness
Yearning for your touch
As I wait for you
My Lord
My love
Forever yours
Eternity my goal
I pledge my love to you
Again and again
Until your return
I will remain
Waiting for you
My Lord
My love

I watch the pavement weep
Beneath my feet
As once perfect raindrops
Now broken flow
Through the cracks on this road
With every step I take
Closer to you

My breaths linger on the air
Like clouds before the rain
Ghosts of the life I lived
A moment ago
Lost in memories
Of your breath on my skin
On my way to you

My footsteps have slowed
These tears now are mine
Falling like perfect raindrops
At the thought of breaths
You can no longer breathe
Memories of you linger here on the air
The ghosts that bring me back to you

Ghost

forever-fi

With those hands
I love so dear
Rip me open
Separate the pieces
Break me down
To the place
Where humanity and divinity meet
My spirit
My soul
Because I want you
And want you to see
That I am nothing
And you are everything
I have set aside myself
For you my love
Forever
Witness why
You consume me
Defeat me
Sustain me
Let your fingers dive
Into me
Deeper
Deeper still
Until you can hold it
Hold me
Hold you
In your grasp is
Beauty eternal
Love everlasting
Me
Forever
Pull it towards you
The you I am
The real you
Find yourself in me
I am
The infinite shelter
Relentless protector
Unceasing servant
Of the immortal you
My love
You are safe here
Within me
Beneath this tangle of
Flesh
Blood
Bone
And here you will remain
Forever

Forever

precipice-fi
Searching no more
I have found it
The truth of me
The essence of my spirit
My purpose
It stands before me
In its enormity
And grandeur
Just being this close
It drives vigor
Into my veins
My mind
My soul
I have but to let go
And let God
To fall into it
Fall where I may
But I don’t
I can’t
I won’t
I cower
I cling
To fear
To comfort
To stability
My heart screams “Go”
My mind whispers “Not now”
And so I stand
Motionless
Lifeless
On the precipice
Of living my dream
And
The life I only dream of

Precipice

Image

precious-treasure-fi
Into our hands each one was entrusted,
A precious treasure from Heaven above.
With sweet little faces cast in our image,
They teach us all how simply to love.

We hold on well to our precious treasures,
Watching them grow by day and by night.
The world in their eyes is so full of wonder,
Yet to us they are its most blissful sight.

We stand in awe as they start to imagine,
Color the world and brighten our homes.
Unburdening us with their childish laughter –
They make us smile with their smiles alone.

We hurt inside and tears fill our eyes
When from us a precious treasure departs.
It matters not if they were our own,
Seeing them go breaks our spirits and hearts.

So when we cry as these little gifts leave,
And reel from a pain that cuts deep as bone,
A great truth of the world is revealed –
These precious treasures were never ours alone.

For each lovely child parents have in their lives
Is a treasure that comes to them through birth.
But the power children have to enlighten their lives
Can also shine light across the Earth.

No matter the cost, these gifts we must guard
That they might help cast this world anew.
Remembering all the while, we’re here only because
We were all once precious treasures too.

[Inspired by the tragic events of the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting. No words of mine can offer solace to the family members and loved ones of the children who perished. I just want them to know that I grieve with them, as I know many of you do. -M]

Precious Treasures

Image

blink-fi
My eyelids fall
There you are
In bits and pieces
In clips and phrases
The lines of your hips
The curve of your smile
The shape of your fingers
The sound of your laughter
My senses come alive
Yet I search for breath
It was swept away
Along with my heart
Stolen by you
In an instant
Never to be returned
Forever yours
My eyelids rise
Here you are not
And you won’t be
Until I blink again
